Study with me

Hey everybody! How about making me feel less alone & studying with me!?!

Memorize ze igneous rocks:

phaneritic aphanitic
felsic granite rhyolite
intermediate diorite andesite
mafic gabbro basalt
ultramafic peridotite ---

Good job! You're really on a roll! Now for the minerals (which you should have learned before the rocks, but my study sheet is backwards...and it's 2 am...sorry). These are just the distinguishable characteristics of the minerals:

calcite - soapy feel, react with HCl
graphite - looks like graphite
specular hematite - reddish, red streak
talc - pearly white
pyrite - fools gold
plagioclase -
k-feldspar - orange, white streak
galena - bright, purple
sillimanite - clear-white, elongated crystals
halite - salty, perfect cubic cleavage
epidote - green, white streak
jasper chalcedony - brown/red-brown, white streak
hornblende - black, white streak
hematite (soft iron ore) - earthy, holes, red streak
magnetite - magnetic, glittery
quartz - hexagonal crystals
muscovite - clear/brown sheets
chlorite - greenish sheets
copper - looks like copper
goethite (limonite) - earthy, yellow streak

You pass! Awesome job!
Goodnight.
